• The Graubünden Canton Avalanche Prevention Bureau maintains over 800 steel snow brake fences and 40 km of concrete deflector walls on slopes above the town, supplemented by real time snowpack telemetry sensors that trigger controlled explosive avalanche releases before natural slides endanger valley settlements.
