• The Erbil Citadel is one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited urban sites — a UNESCO World Heritage Site where 8,000 years of accumulated settlement have built a 32-metre-high artificial mound (tell) — requiring the Kurdistan Region Government to conduct archaeological assessment of every construction project on the plateau, as digging foundations for building repairs can expose Bronze Age, Assyrian, and Parthian settlement layers beneath occupied residential structures.
• The Kurdistan Region Government manages Erbil International Airport as the Kurdistan Region's primary gateway to global markets — with direct flights to European, Middle Eastern, and Asian cities operating independently of Baghdad connectivity — requiring the city to build international hotel, conference, and logistics infrastructure that positions Erbil as the primary foreign investment and reconstruction entry point for all of northern Iraq.
