Nuuk, Greenland (Denmark) · 19,000 people · Coastal City

The Sermersooq Municipal Council constructs cozy indoor football and handball facilities, coordinates the Arctic Winter Games sports hubs, and supports high yield marine trade cooperatives.

The record Nuuk keeps on the Board of Mayors is still unwritten. Take office and write its opening chapter.

The city

Landmark: Nuuk Cathedral & Katuaq Cultural Centre.

• Due to extreme winters, the council built Arctic-resilient indoor turf spaces, which are used to train national youth sports leagues year-round.
• The Katuaq Cultural Centre hosts indigenous Greenlandic drama and acoustic concerts, funded by municipal art and film production scholarships.

How a term works

Take office and each day brings a live situation from the city's services: a decision to make and a result that is measured. A term is judged on approval, infrastructure, environment and innovation, within the city's budget, and every term adds to the record Nuuk keeps on the Board of Mayors. Mayors message and confer with one another, form councils, trade with neighbouring cities and send aid where it is needed. Cities rise together.
